Solid soundbar choice

Rocky Carmichael 11/2/2020

i have this mounted under a 85" q80r. this provides solid sound and a good amount of bass. i haven't used this over 33% without being considered loud. the only issue i have is that the included soundbar brackets (if you wall mount it) are not study enough to hold the soundbar without bending over time. after ~4 mos, i am searching for an alternate mounting solution for the soundbar.

Q80T TV + Q80R Soundbar = TERRIBLE streaming sound

Todd 10/9/2020

sound quality is 100% garbage on most streamed tv shows, including live tv through hulu app. when connecting soundbar to tv via e-arc hdmi or via a toslink fiber optic cable, the sound quality is awful and you can pretty much only hear background noise/music because the foreground sound (the people talking) is so quiet its almost inaudible. for instance, when watching a football game, all you can hear is crowd noise and very very faint voices from the announcers. when connecting the soundbar to my tv via wi-fi it doesnt have that issue at all. so, there is clearly something wrong in the programming on the tv side or the soundbar side. but whatever it is, its basically unusable in current condition.

Very frustrating connectivity issues!

Doug 9/18/2020

like so many others, i continually experience the same frustrating connectivity issues. i have a samsung q80r soundbar and samsung q70 tv. the arc connection will not work and the sound is dramatically compromised when having to connect via bluetooth or wi-fi. for this price point, you should not suffer such wide spread performance issues. i would not recommend this tv / soundbar combo!

Sounds great...... When it works!

joel 8/20/2020

ok lets talk about this. this sound bar is a beast both in size and in performance (when it works). if it hadnt been for the sudden powering off all the time i wouldve easily given this 5 stars. lets get into it... my sound bar flashes a message prt and then powers down randomly... all the freaking time. i can even induce it by turning the volume up past 25 (connected to tv via arc). i have used the smart things ap to attempt a firmware update, unplugged for a minute and then plugged back in, held the gear button on the remote until it resets. this is unacceptable. maybe somebody will read this and be able to help.

Nice Soundbar

MIKE DEEM 7/20/2020

retired an old bose 5.1 system and was looking for a cleaner look while retaining sound quality. the samsung-harmon kardon system delivers superior base at lower volume settings compared to the bose. i can also hear the dialog which was also a challenge with other systems unless the volume is very high. the setup was a little more hands on then most systems but when you have settings dialed in, is worth the effort. samsung 4k uhd, directv, new sony ultra hd blu-ray and roku work together seamlessly. (yes you add some remotes) don't forget to buy quality hdmi cables for the audio and video you are expecting. negative, did not expect to install an app on my mobile device to upgrade the firmware to the soundbar. soundbar keeps cutting off, soundbar keeps getting stuck on bye on its display screen and wont respond to the remote. sent it back twice for repair and both times nothing. waiting on samsung case manager to get back to me. to expensive soundbar for it not to work with a samsung tv. when it works, the sound is awesome. probably works better with other name brand tv's besides samsung. so sad

Annoying and Continous Connection issues

cdwains 6/28/2020

i have had this soundbar since labor day 2019. i have had it connected to my vizio tv via the hdmi/arc. unfortunately, we have had nothing but connection issues since purchase. i have tried alternate hdmi cables and updating the firmware but unfortunately, samsung has yet to fix the issue. i couldn't recommend this product to anyone...it sounds great with music, but with tv or movies the connection issue is supremely annoying. stear clear.

Contestant issues and Rude Tech Support

Jim P 6/24/2020

i have had multiple issues from the speaker not sinking up or my samsung qtv not recognizing the soundbar. instead of having local repair people come look at it (i live in a huge city) i have to package it all up and send it to nj with no estimated time frame for return thus being without a soundbar indefinitely. samsung tvs seem to have the best picture quality in my opinion but it may not be worth it if you are looking for good service and support. the tech support is extremely rude and could care less about being helpful and just read the same troubleshooting issues every time i call. i finally got the ok to fix it.

Total Garbage

WVDutchShepherd 5/22/2020

I purchased this sound bar and subwoofer combo on 10 May 2020. On 13 May 2020 the display screen stopped working and I had to contact Samsung Support to help get it working. We tried all the "available" Tier one steps and that didn't work. I had to send it in for repair after owning for 3 days. The sound bar was retuned to me on 22 May 2020. I unpacked it and began the set up process only to find that the subwoofer wouldn't pair with the sound bar. I tried the manual method approximately 10 times. Reluctantly I called Samsung Support and they had me do the same thing I just tried and still no result. They only option was to "send it back for repair." No, I'll be returning it to Best Buy and never buy another Samsung product again!

weak mid-range

David 5/19/2020

Sound on music is a bit flat, not a lot of depth or richness to the midrange. OTOH, subwoofer is strong, can feel the rumbles, and voices are very clear. Great for watching TV, less than ideal for music or films with soundtracks you care about. Was easy to install and set up.

Great sound but problem with connectivity

Siddu 5/13/2020

I had bought this a week ago. I have Samsung Q80R 65 inch TV so i bought this set and was appointed with the sound cutoff from the speakers when connecting TV through Bluetooth. Sound gets cut off every 3-4 seconds when connected through Bluetooth and every 10 seconds through WiFi. The only way it works good is through HDMI ARC. Normal HDMI connections do not pick the TV connection. Spent 4 hours with Samsung customer support to find a fix for this. Tech specialist was also unable to find the issue with. Pretty disappointed as Samsung suggests this soundbar to be perfect pair for Q80R TV and it doesnt meet expections (Atleast work as mentioned). I'm gonna return this one though. Giving 2 stars for sound quality when connecting through HDMI.

Movie theater experience!!!

Overhere23 4/26/2020

I spent about six months shopping for the right sound bar. The sound is amazing deep bass from the sub and full sound from the sound bar. But Atmos falls in and out. Also have problems with my PS4 not fun times. The pass through for this sound bar is atrocious. If I'm switching from the app on the TV to the PS4. I lose at most and have to manually go in and set it. That is the only downside to this sound bar. also my Samsung Q60R can't tell the difference between the soundbar and the PS4 so it treats the PS4 as the sound bar. at this point I'm thinking about returning it and just getting a receiver that knows what's plugged into it.

Frustrating

JayP 2/28/2020

I have this soundbar connected to 75" Q9FN (2018 Q9 TV) thru the OneConnect box. It is connected to HDMI ARC. I also have it connected to my Yamahar receiver in HDMI1. When this sound works as expected, it sounds great. I should have listened to the other reviewer who mentioned that there are major issues connecting to Q9 series TVs via HDMI ARC. It constantly loses connection. I've tried different HDMI cables with still same result. So I know it's not the cable (as suggested by Samsung). Few times I was able to simply re-select the soundbar thru settings. But lately this doesn't seem to work either. I will try the factory reset approach (which I don't want to do each time). When you spend this kind of money on a sound bar, you expect it to just work. Especially when paired with a Samsung TV.

Great sound, but

oinchats 2/4/2020

The sound is great when streaming Netflix, etc. but when I switch to Spectrum cable for live TV the voices are out of sync and very annoying. I called Samsung and their suggestions did not solve the problem. For the price I paid it should not be annoying. If the problem can't be resolved it will be returned. I would not recommend this if the problem can't be resolved.

Disappointed, returning due to audio sync

Wb48855 2/3/2020

The sound is better than most however the audio sync kills it. You would expect buying a Samsung QLED Q90 and this $1000 Q80 soundbar would produce flawless results. Well this is not the case. Sure there is a fix however you lose all the benefits of ATMOS. What were they thinking? You can't even configure via the TV, settings are a joke.

DO NOT BUY if pairing with a Samsung Q90R QLED

KBilly782 1/4/2020

Buyer beware, A few months ago, I purchased a HW-Q80R Soundbar to pair with my Q90R QLED TV. Seeing how the soundbar was advertised as being optimized for Samsung TVs, and is made by Samsung, I assumed it would be the simplest process ever.  Wrong. There is something wrong with these soundbars. I don't know if it's a software defect or what, but they repeatedly drop as an available audio device when connected via HDMI ARC. Also, the audio occasionally pops from time to time. Once it disappears as an available audio device via HDMI, the only way I could get it to come back was to unplug the unit for 60 seconds, plug it back in, and then factory reset the soundbar. This had to be done EVERY single time I powered on the television to watch something.  I contacted Samsung, and multiple times received incorrect troubleshooting instructions. They would tell me how to reset the soundbar using buttons that don't even exist on the included remote. Without getting too lost in the details, I eventually had to exchange it for a replacement. I was told the first unit must be defective. The replacement came, and exhibited the same issue. I had a Samsung technician come to my house to try and see if there was an issue with my television. He could not figure out the problem.  I eventually had to return the replacement unit out of frustration, and buy another brand of Soundbar. The OTHER brand worked perfectly out of the box, is always recognized as an audio ouput, and never drops the sound. Just so I'm not accused of being a shill I won't even name the other brand.  I have seen numerous other people post about this issue. If Samsung is aware of it (they have to be), they don't seem to be in any rush to address it. For a $1,000 piece of audio equipment this is unacceptable. The only soundbar I cannot get to work with a Samsung TV, is made by Samsung.  I'm warning you that you're taking a gamble purchasing one of these.

Unreal for price & convenience

RSTinAZ 11/11/2019

First of all, I'm not a Samsung shill or biased fanboy. For example, I bought this for my 65" LG OLED C9. Second, I love great sound and don't mind investing reasonably to achieve the desired result. Third, I purchased the first THX certified pre-amp, amp, and speakers developed many years ago - at tremendous expense. I had to calibrate the system with multiple microphones, sound pressure meters, and even ran the exact same length silver 'rope' to all 5 speakers and the sub. That system was amazing and literally shook the plaster off portions of my walls. I spent countless hours sharing the system with family and friends who could not believe the experience. Yes, I'm alot older now and may have a less refined ear... and while this system had 10% of the power (@ 512 watts) of my first system, it does an amazing job. What took weeks and well over $10K (not including projector and screen), now costs an order of magnitude less and hour to install. Does the system deliver the same experience?... not exactly, but it is pretty darn amazing. And in fact, my first THX system did not have upward facing drivers... and this has 4!!!! Do they work?... without question. Are they as good as ceiling mounted?... of course not. I have had no connection issues (just as an aside). I believe the decision as to whether or not to purchase comes down to expectation. If you want full control and tuning over your sound... you should invest in discrete components and run wire. However, if you don't have the interest, time or money... which are all fair considerations... but you want a great surround experience, this Q90R can NOT be beat. Are there less (or more) expensive choices?... Yes... and none can compare - as of this writing. I have purchased many soundbars over the years and THIS Harmon-Kardon tuned 17-driver, 7.1.4, ATMOS beast (with a decent sub included) crushed all of them. By the way, even my fiance - who is generally not a fan of my obsession over technology - has actually enjoyed this system. So, I have no idea if this helped at all... but I hope if you're on fence, this offered some value. Congrats to Samsung for delivering the soundbar against all others will now be compared.

Great sound. Not so smart features.

Pashlit 10/15/2019

The sound of this bar is great. It is very loud and filling. I only go to about 10 on volume scale that is more than enough for my small living room. The bass is great and you can really fell the punch. I am not an audiophile but I can definitely feel the difference between TV speakers and this monster. The bar is huge! It is the same length as 55" TV I have. I wish it was a bit smaller but its OK. Overall I am satisfied with the system. Three HDMI ports (two in and out ARC) is more than enough for me. You can also connect it via optic cable, wi-fi or Bluetooth. I prefer HDMI ARC connection for best results. My only gripe so far is that Samsung does not want to develop smart assistant features. I guess it sort of works with Alexa (you will need an external Amazon device for that), but it DOES NOT work with Google Assistant at all. I almost went with another brand for that reason, but I already have a Q80R TV (which I have the same gripe with), so I ended up with Samsung. Yes, you can listen to the music via Bluetooth but it defeats the whole idea of stand alone home theater system. Samsung, if you are listening, please add Google Assistant capability to this soundbar and stop pushing Bixby thing. Bixby is terrible and it deters many people from buying your products.I have not met a single person who was happy with Bixby but I know tons of people who want Google/Amazon integration. If you properly implement Google and Amazon assistants your sales will skyrocket. Being an engineer myself I am even thinking of opening up that big boy and hard-wiring google mini motherboard inside of it. It has tons of space inside and I just do not understand why Samsung cant add such a small but extremely useful feature. LG, for example, has full Google integration and does not require any external devices. I have Google Mini connected to Nvidia Shield that is connected to TV right now. So, I can use Google/Youtube services I'm subscribed to. It is not the perfect setup and is a bit buggy. It also requires TV to be constantly ON. So, to summarize. It is a nice system but it needs improvement. Samsung, at least add the ability to connect Google home device that will eliminate the need of TV and external TV-Box and make this bar a nice and neat stand alone smart speaker.

WOW OUTSTANDING SOUND!!

Hank H 8/6/2019

Just got this Soundbar. Once you get it configured to your liking it's amazing. Using the HDMI ARC is the best way you will get the best sound. I connected it to my XBOX ONE and Purchased the DOLBY ATMOS APP. It's a one time payment of 14.99 or you can try it for free for 30 days. I put a 4k Blu-ray and wow it's like I am in the AMC Prime theater. Was really good Complete Theater sound. Didn't even have to turn up the volume at level 20 and it's already loud. Defiantly worth it. Got it in a good deal when it was on sale. Great overall Dolby ATMOS sound is the best hands down!!

Absolutely amazing!

AudiophileZ 6/25/2019

I have this soundbar paired with a set of Samsung SWA-9000S wireless rear channel speakers and let me tell you. I will never go back to a traditional surround sound system! This system has far exceeded my expectations. Clarity at all levels of volume, balanced bass, and brilliant mids and highs. With 13 drivers there's not a dull spot to sit in our living room. This soundbar will completely fill a 28x32 room with pure audio bliss. I highly recommend this soundbar and subwoofer. Pair with the above listed rear channel speakers and you will be amazed!

I'm Ecstatic!

JPHappyCamper 6/23/2019

I purchased through Amazon and it was just delivered. I live in a 4th floor apartment and had hoped that UPS would deliver, they bring deliveries to my apartment door. But the USPS delivered leaving it downstairs in the mail room. Fortunately I have a hand truck that I keep in a storage room. I really needed it, this thing is a beast. Just the sound bar itself is heavier than any other one I've ever messed with. Everything paired up with no issue. I have a Sony XBR930D tv and its remote as well as my Fios dvr remote can adjust the volume on the bar. I don't have the expertise of some, I can only judge based on comparing this to my existing Samsung soundbar, a K550 that I purchased in January of 2017. I had no real complaints about it but the difference with this Q80 is absolutely stunning. I've not changed any default settings or modes other than volume. I was extremely impressed from the second I turned it on, even before plugging in the subwoofer. I think many would be very pleased even without the subwoofer. I do keep the woofer behind our seating position, our couch. I did this previously to add some depth and somewhat make up for no rear speakers. Honestly with this thing I would never bother with rear speakers. Again, this is no technical review, I'm watching the movie Red on TNT this afternoon and I've been amazed. The voices are so clear that my concern about this when watching movies may never be an issue even without trying the other modes. There is no Night mode which I had used on the old bar to make dialogue better when watching movies without cranking the volume way up. It was recommended to me to try the Adaptive mode on the Q80 to deal with this but that may not be necessary from what I've heard so far. My knowledge is pretty basic and my needs are fairly simple but this thing is awesome.

Great sound but.

ARCLIGHT9177 6/19/2019

The good stuff sound was clean base was full and setup was easy now the bad only 3 sound presets pop jazz classical no rap or rock what up with that i real hope Samsung adds it in a update more bad news if you own a tv with HDMI 2.1 the pass though will down grade it 2.0 I don't under stand why Samsung would do this with there flagship soundbar line so if you have a Xbox one or plan to get the new Xbox coming next your you are going to have to plug the Xbox into the TV and not the sound bar i'm on the fence about sending it back over this.

ARCLIGHT917 6/18/2019

It sounds great but I'm not happy to find out there is no Way HDMI 2.1 pass though so if you have a Xbox one x or plan to get the new Xbox coming next year don't buy this I'm thinking about sending it back for you to get the benefit of the 2.1 connection you have to plug in your Xbox to your tv and not the sound bar Samsung why would you make your high end sound bar with out this your 8k TVs have HDMI 2.1
